Support > Event Creator > What's New for Event Directors

Event type is chosen up front, levels are no longer required to save, and eight other changes.

This release changes how you build an event and adds several things directors have asked for. There is an illustrated summary with screenshots on the What's New page.

You choose the event type before you build the event

The Event Wizard now opens by asking whether you are setting up a Meet, a Camp/Clinic, Dues/Fees or Tickets. Previously every new event was created as a meet and the type was set for you when your listing was approved, which meant filling in a competition form for an event with no competition in it. A Tickets event now gets a much shorter form. See Choosing the right event type.

You can copy an event and then change its type

Copy last season's meet into a Tickets event and the purchasable items come across ready to sell. The competition levels are deliberately left behind, because a ticket event has none. The Copy Existing Event list is also shorter and more useful now: it shows your events from the last two years, of the same type you are creating. See Copying last season's event.

An event can be saved with no competition levels

You no longer need at least one level before the Save button will work, so you can save the shell of a meet and add levels once the schedule is settled. Nobody can register until a level exists. A ticket or items-only event never needs one. See Adding competition levels to your event.

Link your meet to the event that sells its admission tickets

A meet can point at its ticket event, which puts a Buy Admission Tickets button on the meet's page and a ticket link in the public event lists. See Selling admission tickets alongside your meet.

The public event page has been rebuilt

Your event's detail page is now a two-column layout with status badges, it hides rows you left blank instead of printing empty lines, and it reads properly on a phone - which is where most spectators open it. The wording follows your event type, so a ticket event says Tickets On Sale rather than Registration Open. Nothing you set up needs changing.

Smaller changes

  • Oversized logos are resized for you instead of being refused. Photographs taken on a phone come out the right way up. See Adding your event logo and sponsor logo.
  • Team group names survive a sanction copy. Setting up a USA Gymnastics sanctioned meet and copying settings from a previous meet used to lose the team group names along with the team level and multiple team settings. They now come across with everything else.
  • Event website addresses containing a dash are accepted. An address such as https://www.example.com/my-page.html was rejected on one of the two event forms.

Two things in this release are aimed at the clubs registering with you rather than at you: a refunded athlete can now be entered again, and clubs can fill in clothing sizes from a competitor's previous registration in one click. Both are described in the What's New for Clubs and Ticket Buyers section.
